Many people these days are backbiting the Du’aat and the Scholars under the cloak of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel, so does al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel have conditions?
Question:
"Many people these days are backbiting the Mashaayikh, the Du’aat, and the Scholars under the cloak of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel so does al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel have conditions?"
Answer:
“Al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel concerns the Sciences of Hadeeth. It is not based upon backbiting (al-Gheebah) and slander (al-Nameemah). Backbiting and slandering is forbidden and is not al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel. It is not permitted to backbite the people and to backbite the Scholars, the students of knowledge and the people who do good. Even if you do notice something with them, it is not allowed to speak about them in their absence. This is forbidden! This is backbiting and ill-speaking. If you notice something with them, place that in front of them or else take control over your tongue and be quiet, praise be to Allah. This does not belong to al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel. This is backbiting!”
